In the madness, their soul experiments escalated but successes were far and few, with many deformed in the process into Follies and Mistakes. In reality, their minds had been unknowingly corrupted by the Infection despite their efforts. They fooled themselves into believing consuming souls would awaken the potential of immortality and cut off ties with the Pale King. Though they used to live in servitude to the kingdom, the spread of the Infection led to them desperately experimenting with Souls in search of a cure and committing atrocious sins in the process. Here in the Soul Sanctum wait the once highly intelligent Scholars, who sought to attain pure focus of the mind.
